Was browsing through all that deviantart had to offer in the way of American Gods fanart, and I think that this is my favorite one of Wednesday.... It's straight forward, truthful to the character, without over-glamification that becomes typical of overzealous fans. Really, really wonderful.
Hmm, I don't particulary like this version of him, you get points for being the only one to give him eyepatch. Really, I doubt that he would walk around just with empty eye socket. But you didn't give him a beard, which rather distinctive for Odin.
We've been on a little sabbatical from serious creating for a couple of weeks. Normally We would have junked this at sketch stage (along with many many others over the years) but decided to stick with it and "work it" a bit more to see what happens.
We quite liked the result so We posted it. We find it strange how these little minor works seem to provoke more of a reaction. We just don't understand you "art appeciator type" people at all.
We've just reread what We said earlier and it comes across just plain wrong and somewhat grumpy. Our sincere apologies!
Please don't take offense - that remark wasn't aimed at you (in the singular - a particularly fine and sassy artist, friend and Thongbuddy) but rather the majority of other you's that exist outside Our head who chose to like this and said so.
Don't get Us wrong, it's nice to get positive feedback (even the "one word" comments), it's just We just don't seem able to connect and judge the audience - or any audience - for Our work. Hence Our perplexedness and general miffyness with this one.
Quite obviously We need more experience of receiving complements (and learning to shut up and just say thank yous)
It's great! I haven't read the novel, despite being a fan of some of Gaiman's other material. Still, I can get a feeling of what the character is like by looking at this. Overall the lighting and textures are well done, but perhaps the underside of the noes around the nostrils needs a little more attention.
Thanks for the comment and the constructive feedback on the nose area - always an interesting feature but hard to get "just right". We see what you're saying but with noses it's always hard not to get too picky!
True, true. I didn't suggest anything too specific as I'm not sure exactly what's needed. Given the darkness around the eyes... eye? Whatever. Maybe it should be darker. Or maybe the area leading into the nasal passages should be lightened a shade. Or maybe something in between... Yeah, in short, I'm not sure.
